In this article, we will walk through the causes for project loading/saving errors, as well as going through troubleshooting steps to resolve the errors.

To start, we strongly recommend visiting the below articles for saving projects:

MPC Standalone | The Best Way To Save Projects To An External Drive : Akai Professional

MPC Project failed to load: This message will occur if:

  1. If your MPC project was created in MPC 3 (desktop & standalone) and are attempting to open it on MPC 2 desktop or standalone versions.

Please note that MPC 3 projects are not backwards compatible on MPC 2 OS (Standalone or Desktop). As such, we suggest the workaround of exporting all tracks in your project as audio files - See this guide MPC Series | How to Export Individual Tracks.
  2. If the saving process was interrupted (i.e if your MPC was disconnected from power/battery ran out of charge)

  3. If your MPC project and/or the [ProjectData] folder have been moved from the original saved drive location on your MPC/computer.

  4. If you have renamed the MPC Project and/or [ProjectData] folder outside of MPC 2/MPC Beats software.

  5. If you have used unsupported characters such as / * " / \ < > : | ?

Restoring Renamed Projects: It is important to note that MPC projects that have been manually "renamed" will prevent the MPC from recalling the Project Data files. This is because the project file paths are "hard coded" into the .XPJ file when the session is first saved.
A step you can take to restore a 'renamed' project is to rename the project file (.xpj) back to its original name.

If you are unable to remember the name, the [ProjectData] folder for this file could help - as long as the name for this folder has not been changed or modified.

If for any reason you are unable to remember the original name of your project, then sadly you may continue to receive the error message.
