Congratulations on your purchase of an Alesis drum kit! Registering your hardware provides access to the included software: BFD Player and Dark Mahogany expansion. Using your Alesis kit with a Drum Software Instrument like BFD Player, is an incredibly helpful way to record your performance and make the most of the module's MIDI Capabilities. This article will guide you through the registration and installation of your included BFD Player software and content.

Which Alesis Drum Kits include BFD Player and Dark Mahogany?
Registration
BFD Player is a free software for everyone, but Alesis owners also receive a free expansion upon registration. To access the included software, register your hardware via your inMusic Profile. To do this, follow the steps below:
(If you're yet to create an account, please make an inMusic account before proceeding)
- Create/Log in to your inMusic Profile
- Once logged in, locate the Register New Product button in the My registered products panel.
- Next, enter your serial exactly as it is written on your device after the (21), followed by 15 digits with no spaces. Then click Check Serial.
- Once the serial number is confirmed, you'll be taken to the Product Found step.
Click the Register your product prompt. - Input the Date of Purchase and Purchase Location information.
Please note - the Date of Purchase is mandatory.
- Complete the registration by clicking Register your product.
The registered product will now appear on the screen, found in the Your Registered Products tab.
Download the inMusic Software Center
Now that your hardware is registered, you'll be able to redeem and download your included software via the inMusic Software Center. To access the Software Center and the included content, the download will be found in the Your Registered Products tab. Please follow the steps below:
- Click on the View Downloads icon under your Alesis Kit
- Open the Software downloads menu
- Download the inMusic Software Center suited to your computer's operating system:
- Locate the installer from your computer's Downloads folder
- Double-click and run the installer
Please note - You may be asked if you would like to allow this program to make changes to your system. Click Yes.
Mac users may be asked to allow third-party developer access and/or enter their password depending on system settings. This is normal and expected.
Redeeming your free software and expansion
- Once the inMusic Software Center is installed, you'll want to open the software and log in to your inMusic Profile.
- Once logged in, you will be prompted to connect your Nitro Max Kit to your computer.
- Power on the drum module and connect it to your computer using a USB Type B > A or C cable (cable not included).
- Once you have connected your kit, click Redeem Software.
- Once it has verified the connection to your Kit, the Software will be automatically added to your inMusic Account!
- Once the software is redeemed, you will see this:
- Ensure that BFD Player, the BFD Player Core Library, and BFD Player Dark Mahogany are checked.
Downloading and Installing BFD Player
Once your licenses have been redeemed, you'll be able to install the BFD Player, the Core Library, and BFD Player Dark Mahogany.
- Navigate to the My Software tab of the inMusic Software Manager, where you will see that the BFD Player and Core Library have begun installing automatically.
The Core Library installer is significantly larger, so please allow some time for this to download before installing. - Once downloaded, click Install and follow the prompts on screen.
- When installing the Core Library, you will be prompted to choose a file location to save this library to.
The default location can be found in /Documents/BFD Drums/BFD Player - Core Library.
Installing Expansions
Next, download and install the included expansion content, BFD Player Dark Mahogany.
- Navigate to the My Expansions tab of the inMusic Software Center. Dark Mahogany will already be on this page.
- Click Download if it hasn't already downloaded.
- Click Install.
You will again be prompted to choose an installation location. The default location is the following:
Documents/BFD Drums/BFD Player - Dark Mahogany
Authorizing your BFD Content
- Once the installation is completed, launch BFD Player.
- You will be prompted to log in to your inMusic Profile. Click the button and follow the prompts.
- Once logged in, BFD Player will request access to your inMusic Profile. Click Accept.
- After processing, you will be redirected to BFD Player and asked to confirm your authorization of Dark Mahogany.
- Next, a confirmation will appear showing that the Sound Pack or Expansion has been authorized. All currently installed libraries will be listed in the left-hand column.
- Double-click on a preset to load it and trigger sounds.
Set up your Alesis Kit
- Click the Settings icon on the bottom right of the Window
- Select your choice of Output - Note, audio cannot be passed through your drum kit's module. It can be set up for your computer's built-in soundcard or an external sound card.
- Ensure your Kit is listed, highlighted, & Checked to confirm it is enabled - Click 'Refresh' if the kit is missing, click the kit to enable it.
- Click outside of the window to close the settings - Audio / MIDI setup is now complete!
Select your Kit's Mapping
- Locate the down arrow button to the right of the “Preset” section at the top left.
- Click the arrow and go to Engine > Keymap.
- Select the Keymap for your Kit:
