If you have an MPC X, Live, Live II or MPC One, you will have the included MPC legacy expansion plugins which you can use on your computer.

In this article, we will walk through how to locate and place these plugins in the correct location for use in MPC 2 software, but the same ideas apply for 3rd party DAW's.

The first thing you will need to do is log in to your inMusic Profile. Once you have logged in, click on your registered MPC product, then click the View Downloads button as seen below:

From here, Open the Legacy Expansions tab and download/install them on your computer:

Please Note:

Legacy Expansions on MacOS: The Wub, The Noise, The 809 and the Bank are legacy expansions which were created around the time of the now discontinued MPC 1.9 software. These expansions cannot be installed on modern macOS systems post macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Legacy Expansions on Windows: However, these legacy expansion can be installed and used up to Windows 11. If you are using this operating system version, these expansion will install to a specific location on your PC, so you will need to place them in the correct location.

In this example we will be covering the steps for The 809, The Bank & The Wub on a Windows PC but the same process will apply for macOS:

1. Windows: On your computer, go to your C: drive, then locate the ProgramData folder. This is a hidden folder, so please unhide it by following the instructions in THIS article.

macOS: By default, the plugin files will install in one the following directories:

  • AU: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components.
  • VST2: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST.
  • VST3: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3.

2. Next, go to: Akai > MPC > MPC Expansion Instruments. You will then see .dll and .x64.dll files for The 809, The Bank & The Wub:

3. You will only need the .x64.dlfiles, so copy and paste these to C: > Program Files > Steinberg > vstplugins.

In this location, you will also find the .x64dll files for your other plugins:

4. Launch MPC 2 software or MPC Beats and go to Menu > Edit > Preferences > Plugins and click on the three dots ... to open the following file location:

Windows: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\vstplugins.

macOS:

  • AU: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components.
  • VST2: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST.
  • VST3: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3.

5. Click the upwards arrow at the far right if you need to open up more folder directories. Once you have located the vstplugins folder, click Open:

6. The file path will now be in the box with a check mark. Click Rescan All.

Once the rescan has been completed, you should then see The 809, The Bank & The Wub in the list of scanned plugins with 'OK' in blue like so:

7. Click OK at the bottom right and proceed to load your MPC legacy expansion plugin instruments:
