Akai Pro MPC Series | How To Set Up The MPC To Receive Program Changes

This article will cover the steps to set up the MPC to receive program changes from an external MIDI device.

Your MPC can be configured to receive one of the following program change messages from an external MIDI device: Program, Sequence or Track.

Please Note: This will only work if your MIDI device is capable of sending program change messages like the LPD8 MKII.

1. Connect the MIDI device to the MPC via USB or 5-Pin MIDI DIN.

2. Go to: Menu > Preferences > MIDI / Sync.

3. Scroll to the very bottom of the MIDI / Sync menu.

4. From here, select one of the following options: Program, Sequence or Track*:

*Note on MPC 3, the program change options will be Track & Sequence only.

5. Configure your MIDI device to send program change messages.

As an example, in the LPD8 MKII editor, we have configured the following program change (PG) messages:

PC 0 for Program, Next Sequence or Track 1
PC 1 for Program, Next Sequence or Track 2
PC 2 for Program, Next Sequence or Track and so on.

6. Once configured, your MPC will react to Program, Sequence or Track changes using the program change number you have configured on your external MIDI device.
