Finding The MIDI Note Number
The first thing to do is find the MIDI note number that your drum plugin is using.
There are two conventions for numbering MIDI notes. The first is where MIDDLE C (C3) is Note #60. In this scenario, C1 will appear as Note #36 in your DAW:
The other convention is where MIDDLE C (C3) is Note #48. In this scenario, C1 will appear as Note #24 in the MPK's editor:
Please note: These note numbers may vary depending on your DAW/plugin manufacturer. Please consult with the manufacturer of your DAW/drum plugin for further guidance on finding the MIDI note numbers.
Once you have found the MIDI Note number you need, take a note of them and continue reading...
Assigning the MIDI Note Number in the Editor
1. The first thing you will need to do is download and open the editor for your MPK mini HERE
2. Connect your MPK mini to your computers USB port
Important: Please ensure that you have fully closed down all Music making or MIDI applications before opening and making changes in the MPK Mini editor as other applications may be trying to take MIDI priority of the MPK Mini, which will cause issues when saving changes from the editor to your MPK Mini.
3. Open the editor
4. Use the NOTE field to enter the notes on the pads.
Bank A:
Pads 1 - 4: Bottom row (L to R)
Pads 5 - 8: Top row (L to R)
Bank B:
Pads 1 - 4: Bottom row (L to R)
Pads 5 - 8: Top row (L to R)
Saving a Program
1. Once you have made your pad note number changes, Go to:
- File > Send Program (MPK mini III and MPK mini Plus)
- File >Send Favorite (MPK mini Play mk3)
Then choose your desired slot (1-8).
2. We also recommend saving a copy of your program/favorite on your computer for future reference. Do this by going to:
- File > Save Program (MPK mini III and MPK mini Plus)
- File > Save Favorite (MPK mini Play mk3)
3. You will then be presented with a window to save the program file to a destination on your computer. Choose your save destination and click Save.
4. Once this has been done, close the MPK mini editor.
Loading a Program
1. The final step is to load the program that you made your changes to in the editor.
- MPK Mini III: Press and hold PROGRAM SELECT and tap the pad that represents the program slot
- MPK Mini Plus: Press and hold PROGRAM SELECT and tap the pad that represents the program slot
- MPK Mini Play (mk3): Press and hold FAVORITES and tap the pad that represents the favorite slot
2. Next, open up your DAW and your drum plugin. You should find that the MPK mini's pads are now assigned to the correct pads in your DAW/drum plugin!
