For general troubleshooting of the Sub/Subsequent 37, we recommend performing the following steps in order:
TABLE OF CONTENTS
- SysEx Software
- INIT Patch Setup
- Initial Settings Reset
- Note Calibration
- Pot Calibration
- Reload Factory Presets
- Reload Firmware
SysEx Software
Some of these troubleshooting steps requires the use of a SysEx software. This is a piece of software specifically designed for sending and receiving SysEx (.syx) files. These procedures specifically require sending the SysEx files from the software to the synth. Below are the two recommended SysEx software, and their associated method for setting up a MIDI output.
- SysEx Librarian (mac) - The synth will appear in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen.
- Bome Send SX (windows) - Go to MIDI Out and select the synth from the choices provided.
If you are having issues sending a SysEx file, a common solution can be to adjust the SysEx data transfer speed to transfer slower.
- SysEx Librarian - Settings > Transmit Speed
- Bome Send SX - Options > Settings > Actual MIDI Speed
INIT Patch Setup
To rule out the possibility that your current patch is causing the problem, switch the synth to an INIT (initialized) patch.
- Press and hold the PANEL button for approximately 3 seconds.
- The previously selected patch will continue continue to be displayed on the LCD screen. Once you've modified your INIT patch, remember to save it to a new bank & patch to prevent overwriting your last patch.
Initial Settings Reset
- Press the GLOBAL button and scroll UP until you see INIT SETTINGS
- Press the CURSOR button to select this option
- Hold SAVE button for five seconds (you will see a countdown on the screen)
- All global settings will be reset to their defaults.
- A video detailing how to perform this procedure can be found HERE.
Note Calibration
- Verify that the synth has warmed up for at least 15 minutes.
- Press the GLOBAL button and scroll UP until you see CALIBRATION.
- Press the CURSOR button to enter this menu.
- Press CURSOR on NOTE CALIBRATION to select this option.
- Press the SAVE button to begin the calibration process.
- You will see the OCTAVE lights flashing like a strobe tuner for the duration of this process. It should take no more than 2-5 minutes.

Pot Calibration
- You will find the necessary files and instructions HERE.
- Connect the SP37 via USB to a computer or laptop and open your SysEx program of choice.
- Select the SP37 as your MIDI output device in the settings of the SysEx software.
- Set all of the front panel controls fully counter-clockwise. Place the mod wheel at its lowest position and hold the pitch wheel down. Send the “Sub37_PotCal_Low.syx” file while still holding the pitch wheel in the down position.
- Now set all of the front panel controls fully clockwise. Place the mod wheel at its highest position and hold the pitch wheel up. Send the “Sub37_PotCal_High.syx” file while still holding the pitch wheel in the up position.
- Lastly, set all of the front panel controls to their center/12 o’clock position. Place the mod wheel at its center position and allow the pitch wheel to return to center. Send the “Sub37_PotCal_Center.syx” file.
- This completes the pot calibration procedure. Power the SP37 off and back on and you are good to go!

Reload Factory Presets
- Download the necessary files and instructions:
- Sub 37
- Subsequent 37
- Sub 37 and Subsequent 37 presets are interchangeable.
- Select the SP37 as your MIDI output device in the settings of the SysEx software.
- Load the preset SysEx file(s) into SysEx software.
- Send the preset data to the Sub 37 by pressing SEND. The Sub 37 does not need to be setup in any specific way to receive the SysEx data.
- You will see the MIDI LED flash red as the data is received. Once complete, the Sub 37 should return to its normal operation with the new presets displayed in the preset banks.
- A video detailing how to perform this procedure can be found HERE.
Reload Firmware
- Download the necessary files and instructions:
- The Sub and Subsequent 37 firmware are interchangeable.
- A video detailing how to perform a firmware update can be found HERE.
