The audio inputs featured on your MPC standalone console expect to receive a line-level signal which is greater than the instrument-level signal that an electric guitar produces.
If you are using an electric guitar that has loud pickups, such as hotrails or humbuckers, an acoustic with an active pickup, or a bass guitar you will be able to connect it directly to the MPC, however, if you are using standard single coil pickups, you may need to add a preamp between your guitar and MPC; this will boost the signal level of your guitar.
To record your guitar on any MPC standalone console, please follow the steps below...
1. Connect the output of your guitar or preamp to the 1/4" L input on the back panel of your MPC.
2. Create a new empty project.
3. Press the Main button then click the looping arrow icon under START/END shown below to deactivate the loop and enable free recording.
4. Click the 'Audio' tab in the bottom left corner of the display, then tap the 'eye' icon.
5. Double tap the Input drop down menu which shows 'Input 1, 2' by default, and select Input 1.
6. Tap the Input Monitoring button, which by default reads "OFF," to change it to "AUTO."
7. Strum your guitar and you should now hear it through your MPC console.
8. To add overdrive or FX to your guitar signal, tap an empty space on the 'Inserts' box, then double tap an available slot to load an effect.
9. Hit the record and play buttons, then rock on!
