Traktor: How to convert your Beatsource tracks to Beatport

Beatsource is merging into Beatport, creating a unified DJ platform. Beatport users need no action, but Beatsource users must migrate their accounts and tracks by following specific steps, including backing up their Traktor Offline Library, transferring accounts on Beatsource.com, and using the Beatsource Converter Tool to convert their Traktor collections. The migration occurs in phases between March and May, with a final deadline after which access to Beatsource will be locked.

Beatsource is officially folding into Beatport. The two platforms are merging to create a unified streaming and download hub tailored for DJs, meaning Beatsource will no longer exist as a separate entity.

This article explains what you need to do as a Traktor user. But before taking any action, please ensure you’ve reviewed the following articles on Beatport.com, which contain the latest information about the rollout process:

This article will be updated regularly over the coming weeks, so please check back for the latest update.

As a Beatport user, do I need to take any action?

No. As a Beatport user, nothing will change for you, and you don’t have to do anything. You will find that the Beatport catalog has expanded and now includes several additional genres. Your  tracks and playlists will not be affected by this merger.

As a Beatsource user, do I need to take any action?

Yes! As a Beatsource user, you will need to proactively migrate your tracks and your login from Beatsource to Beatport for a seamless experience.

Important! As a Traktor user, before you proceed with the account transfer offered on Beatsource.com, you must first understand the implications for your Traktor collection and follow the steps described below.

When do I have to migrate?

The migration will be rolled out in phases during March and May.

Not every user is eligible for the migration from day one. The best way to check your eligibility is to log in to your Beatsource.com account. If you are eligible, the "Start Transfer" button will appear at the top of the page.

To find out about the final deadline for the migration process, please refer to the Beatsource Migration FAQ.

What happens if I miss the migration deadline?

If you do not take any action, your Beatsource access remains available, and all Beatsource tracks remain playable in Trakor until the final transfer deadline.

At this point, your Beatsource account will be force-transferred to Beatport, and you will be locked out of Beatsource.

This isn't a critical problem as you can still convert your Beatsource tracks anytime after this date using the Beatsource Converter tool linked in the next section.

In what order do I proceed with the conversion of my Traktor Collection and playlists from Beatsource to Beatport?

1. Backup your Beatsoure Offline Library (only for Beatsource Pro+ plan subscribers)

In Traktor:

  • Open Traktor.
  • Right-click on your Beatsource "Offline Library" node.
  • Select "Import to Playlists".
  • Give a meaningful name (i.e. "Offline Library Backup").
  • Click OK.
  • Close Traktor.

2. Transfer your account from Beatsource to Beatport

On Beatsource.com:

  • Go to Beatsource.com.
  • Log in to your account.
  • Click on "Start Transfer" and follow the online instructions.

3. Download and launch the Beatsource Converter Tool

  • Download the converter tool here.
  • Unzip the zip-archive and double-click on the included html file.
  • This will launch your default browser and show the interface of the Beatsource Converter tool for Traktor.
  • The following sections describe the steps to follow one by one:

Step 1 - Select your Traktor Collection file:

  • Click the "Select" button and navigate to the file:
    Mac: /Users/<your.name>/Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor x.y.z/collection.nml
    Win: C:\Users\<your.name>\Documents\Native Instruments\Traktor x.y.z/collection.nml
("x.y.z" is your current Traktor version)
  • Click "Open" to confirm your selection.

Step 2 - Backup your Traktor Collection file:

  • Click the "Backup" button.
  • Select the path for saving the backup.
  • Confirm by clicking "Save".
  • This will create a time-stamped copy of your current Collection.

Step 3 - Convert your current Traktor Collection:

  • Click the "Convert" button.
  • Wait until the conversion is completed.
  • A report will show how many of your tracks could be successfully converted.

Note 1: in case you have both Beatsource and Beatport accounts, you may have track duplicates in your collection. In such cases, the metadata of the Beatsource version will be replaced with the metadata of the Beatport version. The report entry "Total replaced by Beatport version" informs you about how many of your tracks were such duplicates.

Note 2: tracks not migrated will remain in your Collection as Beatsource tracks. You should try to run the Converter Tool a second time after a few weeks to convert the remaining Beatsource tracks of your Collection as these tracks may have been migrated at a later date.

Step 4 - Replace your current Collection with the converted version:

On Chrome / Microsoft Edge:

  • Click the "Save" button
  • In the file saving dialog, confirm that you want to save the converted version by clicking "Save".
  • When prompted, select "Replace" to update your current Collection.

On Safari / Firefox - depending on your browser settings:

If your file downloads location is "Downloads":

  • Click the "Save" button.
  • This will save the file to your Downloads folder.
  • Locate the collection.nml file in your Downloads folder and move it to the path specified in step 1, replacing your original collection.nml file.
  • When prompted, select "Replace" to update your current Collection.

If your file downloads location is "Ask for each download":

  • Click the "Save" button.
  • In the file saving dialog, browse to the folder selected in step 1 and confirm by clicking "Save".
  • When prompted, select "Replace" to update your current Collection.

Step 5 - Test the conversion:

  • Start Traktor.
  • Log in to Beatport with your former Beatsource credentials.
  • You should now be able to play your former Beatsource tracks from Beatport.

Step 6 - Restore your Offline Library:

  • Go to the backup playlist you created from your Beatsource Offline Library.
  • Confirm that the tracks in this playlist are playable.
  • Select all tracks.
  • Right-click on the selection and choose "Add to Offline Library".
